Icon Workshop

Icon - from the Greek word "eikon" - meaning picture or image. Icons are used in the proclamation of faith and as an invitation to meditative prayer. Since the icon workshop was established several years ago, icons have played a significant role in our liturgy and daily life. In the Orthodox Church there is a long tradition of honoring icons. The writer of icons - usually a monk or nun - is commissioned by the church and follows clear rules which unite the artistic work with prayer. The icons which we produce in Dinklage are made according to these rules and use only traditional materials such as wood, cloth, chalk, pigment, egg yolks and linseed oil. The work produced in our icon workshop was affirmed by the Romanian patriarch in December 2004 with an attestation.
